In the first month of Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, the Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, carried out an operation against drug trafficking in the State of Mexico. Subsequently, during a Conago meeting in Acapulco, García Harfuch warned governors about the consequences of having ties to drug trafficking, especially after Donald Trump's return to the presidency of the U.S.
Recently, a commissioner from García Harfuch arrived in Nuevo León with fifty personnel, amidst a problematic context. For the past six months, the region has recorded an average of one execution every fifteen days, linked to the fabrication of fraudulent invoices.
This scenario unfolds in a time of high political tension and with the backdrop of elections. The operation, dubbed Swarm, has generated speculations about possible investigations against mayors of rural areas, sensitive regions in terms of security.
In the state political sphere, different factions interpret the situation differently. While in the PRI-PAN Front the presence of García Harfuch's envoy is viewed positively as a way to pressure Sheinbaum, in MC they believe that if the operation takes place in Nuevo León, it would affect one mayor from the PRI and another from the PAN.
According to sources close to García Harfuch, Nuevo León is a strategic territory for his objectives to dismantle the money route coming from drug trafficking. This region is shaping up as a key point in the secretary's efforts to combat organized crime activity.
