Changes in the Comipems Exam 2025

In 2025, the Comipems exam will maintain its importance for admission to high schools. New criteria and greater clarity in the selection process will be introduced.

Changes in the Comipems Exam 2025

In 2025, the annual placement exam administered by the Metropolitan Commission of Public Institutions of Upper Secondary Education (Comipems) presents significant changes. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the elimination of the exam, which generated uncertainty among parents and students accustomed to this process.

In response to the concerns, the official Comipems website clarified that the assignment exam will continue to be the main method for accessing the majority of upper secondary education institutions. The high schools of UNAM, IPN, and other government-run high schools will still require this exam, composed of 128 questions.

Furthermore, the process is expected to be more selective due to the growing demand. Multiple criteria will be considered, such as the secondary school average, the expansion of educational offerings, and transparency. The exam is likely to be more challenging, especially for entry into UNAM and IPN, whose cutoff scores may increase.

The call for applications, instructions, and necessary documentation to participate in the admission process have been available since the third week of January. Students will need to evaluate their educational options, pre-register, and take a photograph before the deadline, which is usually in early March.
