After serving a year and a half in prison for embezzlement and illegal use of powers and faculties, the former mayor of Tula de Allende, Hidalgo, Manuel 'N', regained his freedom by compensating the financial damage caused to the municipality of 25 million pesos. The original sentence included four years in prison, the payment of 25 million pesos, and a fine of 200 days in compensation for the damage caused.

Manuel 'N' was declared guilty and acknowledged his responsibility during the hearing on Wednesday. The former mayor committed the crimes of embezzlement and illegal use of powers and faculties. According to legislation, since it was a sentence of less than four years, he was able to obtain freedom by paying the stipulated amount to repair the damage to the municipality.

The Attorney General's Office of Hidalgo reported that, following investigations by the Unit for the Investigation of the Maxiprocess, the accused chose an abbreviated procedure instead of an oral trial. In 2023, the former PRD mayor of Tula de Allende was detained for the illegal use of powers and faculties.

Under the management of the head of the PGJEH, Santiago Nieto Castillo, Manuel 'N' was confined to the Pachuca jail. The investigation focused on the direct awarding of contracts worth more than 66 million pesos. During the process, it was highlighted that the former mayor allegedly coordinated the 'Maxiprocess of the Sinister Scam', linked to the diversion of public funds in Tula de Allende.
