In the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, a suspected embezzlement of 500 million pesos has been revealed, according to an audit. Oromapas, one of the municipal agencies, accounts for a quarter of this missing amount. It is suspected that the embezzlements could be related to irregular payments to contractors and direct awards without adequate administrative oversight.
Former official Martin García was shot dead outside his home in Mezcales. His murder occurred amid an investigation into an embezzlement of at least 150 million pesos during the previous administration, led by Lia Castro. It was reported that the attack was carried out by a lone man in a white truck, who fled quickly after the incident.
García worked as the director of Oromapas during Lia Castro's term and was implicated in various acts of corruption. During the handover to the current administration, only 82 thousand pesos were found instead of the 51 million reported by García. Various irregularities were recorded during the previous administration, according to a reception report from last year with 104 observations, 15 of which concerned Oromapas.
Alleged irregularities in contract allocation, resource management, and discrepancies in the municipality's financial accounting are highlighted. The Superior Audit Office of the Federation estimates a potential asset damage in Bahía de Banderas between 2021 and 2024 totaling 491 million 312 thousand 153 pesos with 43 cents. Authorities continue to investigate to clarify the crime and determine if it is related to the financial irregularities detected in the previous administration.
