Reforms to the National Transparency Platform

Raquel Buenrostro, who heads the Secretary of Anti-Corruption and Good Government, explained the plans for the National Transparency Platform (PNT) after the disappearance of the National Institute of Access to Information (INAI). During the morning conference on Friday, January 31, Buenrostro assured that they are in talks with the commissioners of INAI to receive the PNT, in which they will implement a cryptographic validator to ensure the integrity of the information. The official indicated that the Secretary of Anti-Corruption will supervise and manage the site according to the law.

Amid concerns raised by the commissioners of INAI about the future of the platform and its content, which includes personal data, Raquel Buenrostro confirmed that action has been taken to ensure the continuity and security of the PNT. Commissioner Norma Julieta del Río Venegas revealed that the platform houses almost 15 billion records, of which only 7 thousand correspond to the Executive Branch. In a radio interview, she indicated that 14 million pesos annually would be required to maintain it, due to its infrastructure and dedicated staff.

The new Institute of Transparency for the People, as part of the secondary laws to be presented to the Senate, will be responsible for the protection of personal data. These changes, following the elimination of autonomous bodies including INAI, establish that there will be a single head instead of the previous 7 commissioners. The Secretary will assume most of the responsibilities and costs of the former Institute. Along with the repeal of the Federal Transparency and Access to Public Information Law, the goal is to strengthen access to transparency and data protection, with fewer resources than those previously allocated to INAI.
