The National Electoral Institute of Mexico will receive 800 million pesos from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit to finance the judicial election, an amount lower than the 1,511 million originally requested. Guadalupe Taddei, president of the INE, assured that this money will allow the installation of 84,000 polling stations in the electoral process, a figure below the target of 86,000 initially planned.
In a meeting with state councilors, Taddei stated: "Once it is captured in the Treasury portal, the funds will be released." Rita López, a councilor and part of the organizing committee, mentioned that the INE will adjust its budget considering only the 800 million allocated so far, although they had originally requested an increase. "For now we will make do with what is available and work with what is already secured," López explained.
The president of the INE also confirmed that on February 12 they will begin the technical review process of the candidate lists for the Judiciary. Despite not having the full resources to reach the 86,000 polling stations, the Institute has already coordinated with the Senate the formats of the required databases.
Taddei detailed: "We need to materially have the resources to continue moving forward. Everything is already in the Treasury, the procedure is ready for 800 million. They are just generating the corresponding administrative structure." In addition, the consistency of the information and the correction of the data will be verified before proceeding with the process.
