Controversy Surrounds Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller’s Social Media Critique

The wife of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, sparked a negative reaction by attacking the platform X (formerly Twitter) for notifying changes in the account verification policy. In a message published on Sunday, February 2, Gutiérrez Müller stated that she would not pay to keep her verified account, accusing the platform of spreading false news and promoting hate speech. Following the notification of necessary adjustments before February 5, 2025, she deleted the post and offered apologies.

Over the years, Gutiérrez Müller has been criticized for blocking journalists and critics who question López Obrador's government. She has denounced disinformation campaigns against her and has accused media outlets of spreading false news. One of the controversial moments was when she insensitively responded to a user asking if she would attend to children with cancer amid the lack of medications in the public health system.

In her message against Twitter, Gutiérrez Müller called the social media platform a "microsite of false news, filled with hate, racism, and a radical fascism algorithm." She also lamented the platform's actions and made controversial comments, generating criticism for her insensitive stance on social media. Her reaction adds to the criticism arising from the changes in X's policies, especially regarding account verification and the possible implementation of charges for additional services.
