Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller has entered the controversy surrounding the threats and statements made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, towards Mexico. Through a message, the wife of Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed her unconditional support for the stance of President Claudia Sheinbaum. "She is an honest, experienced woman, with principles and whose ultimate goal is the well-being of all, even beyond our borders," she wrote.
Gutiérrez Müller also referred to the sovereignty of the country, emphasizing that Mexico is a free and independent country. "We have imposed tariffs. They owe us a lot of money and we will ensure they pay," Trump indicated upon arriving in Washington after spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
"Throughout history, we have known how to raise our faces against the invading foreigner, so this will not be the first time we do it together, united and with supreme courage," Gutiérrez Müller mentioned. President Claudia Sheinbaum shared a video opening the door to negotiations with Trump, but without subordination. "Problems are not solved with the imposition of tariffs, but by speaking and dialoguing," she expressed.
Trump revealed that he expects to speak by phone on February 3 with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and does not expect anything dramatic from those conversations before the start of the new 25 percent tariffs. "Defamation, threats, and attempts to subdue our nation due to an external social, political, and economic health crisis are unacceptable," he added.
