The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared that her government is prepared "for any scenario" in response to the threat from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada starting Saturday. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of constant dialogue with the U.S. administration, which has allowed for agreements on issues such as security and immigration, while respecting sovereignty and human rights.
She stressed that they will always defend the dignity of the Mexican people, national sovereignty, and advocate for dialogue among equals. For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also taken a firm stance against Trump's trade measures, promising a decisive yet reasonable response.
Trump's tariff threats arise from what he sees as a lack of action by Mexico on security and immigration issues at the border. Sheinbaum assured that Mexico has different plans prepared to respond to the actions of the U.S. administration, always maintaining calm and composure amidst the situation.
