In Mexico, corruption, impunity, and a lack of values have become normalized, and citizens have lost faith in the institutions. This distrust has led to dangerous situations: victims avoid reporting due to the inaction of authorities, which causes some people to seek justice on their own and infringers to act without fear of consequences.
The rule of law is compromised when justice is nonexistent and impunity reigns. Social responsibility and commitment to justice are scarce, while criticism of impunity coexists with the justification of actions that promote it.
In light of the possible Reform of the Judiciary in Mexico, the question arises about what the future holds if the judicial system is already collapsed. Will the election of judges by popular vote be a solution or a greater complication? Is the country destined to live in a place where justice is a privilege and not a right?
The ineffectiveness and inefficacy of the Mexican justice system become evident when having a private lawyer does not guarantee progress in investigations, which can take months to advance. The lack of training of public servants, lawyers with unmanageable caseloads, and the lack of resources and infrastructure contribute to the paralysis of justice.
Distrust in the Mexican Justice System is widespread, while the inefficiency of public service is undeniable. Corruption, the lack of adequate human resources and legal tools, as well as deficiencies in training personnel, have turned institutions into symbols of negligence and governmental corruption.
Society no longer revolves around values of solidarity and justice, but is instead entrenched in selfishness and indifference. The prevailing mentality is one of self-interest, without considering the common good or the need for change. Honesty is demanded, but cheating is celebrated, and although change is requested, the resistance to it is evident at all levels of society.
