US Air Force Aircraft Sparks Controversy in Mexico

A Boeing RC-135V aircraft from the United States Air Force was spotted flying over the Gulf of California, catching the attention of social media users after Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, reached an agreement with her counterpart Donald Trump to pause the 25 percent tariffs.

The Boeing RC-135V is used for reconnaissance and signal interception, collecting real-time information during flight within the area where it operates. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft entered the Gulf of California from the Pacific Ocean, flew near Cabo San Lucas, and traveled along the East Coast of the Baja California Peninsula, passing near cities like Culiacán, Los Mochis, Ciudad Obregón, and Guaymas in the state of Sinaloa.

The aircraft departed from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, United States, and according to the Mexican Secretary of Defense (Sedena), it did not enter Mexican airspace. Through social media, Sedena reported that the aircraft remained in international waters during its trajectory over the Gulf of California.

After the online controversy regarding the presence of the U.S. Air Force aircraft in Mexican skies, speculation arose about whether it was related to the agreement between Sheinbaum and Trump. During a call between the leaders of Mexico, the United States, and Canada, it was agreed to stop the 25 percent tariffs, and Sheinbaum announced that Mexico would strengthen measures against drug trafficking by sending 10,000 National Guard members to the U.S. border. Additionally, it was agreed to work to prevent the trafficking of high-powered weapons into Mexico.
