Approval Rating for President Claudia Sheinbaum

President Claudia Sheinbaum concluded her fourth month in office with a citizen approval level of 81%, according to a national survey conducted by El Financiero. This high level of support suggests that the population has backed the president in light of the measures announced by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the deportation of nationals and the imposition of tariffs on Mexico, measures that were paused for a month following the recent conversation between both leaders.

The survey reflects that 31% of Mexicans perceive a favorable relationship between Claudia Sheinbaum and Donald Trump, while 52% believe that the relationship between the two leaders is unfavorable. The study, which was conducted before the mentioned conversation between Sheinbaum and Trump, indicates that the perception of a deterioration in the bilateral relationship has increased since the U.S. president won the elections last November.

In another aspect, the perception of public insecurity in Mexico has risen over the last month, reaching 78% in January, compared to 68% previously recorded, which was already a high level compared to the last two years. Public opinion is divided regarding the government’s handling of insecurity, with 44% rating it positively and 45% negatively. In relation to organized crime, Sheinbaum's government receives a 25% positive rating and 69% negative.

Regarding Sinaloa, 88% of respondents consider that public safety in the state is poor. Regarding statements made by Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, in which he claimed that life is perfectly fine in Sinaloa, 92% of those interviewed disagreed with that statement.

The survey was conducted by phone with 900 adult Mexicans throughout January 2025, with a margin of error of +/-3.3%.
