Revolutionary Admission Changes for Mexican Students

At the beginning of March, all young people will be able to register on a platform to choose their 10 priorities, based on the proximity of their home or the selected preparation, as announced by Mario Delgado, Secretary of Public Education. UNAM and the Polytechnic will maintain their admission exam, which will be conducted online. Subsequently, in May, those registered on the platform will be able to take the entrance exams for both institutions to confirm their place.

"This year there will be no Comipems exam," mentioned Claudia Sheinbaum, president, highlighting the importance of guaranteeing education for all and improving the public high school system. The disappearance of the Comipems exam aims to raise the quality of upper secondary education throughout Mexico and prevent young people from being considered "rejected." This change is part of the new Comprehensive Plan of the National Baccalaureate System of the New Mexican School.

The creation of 200,000 new places in high schools across the country is planned for 2025. This includes the opening of 40,000 new spaces through the construction of 20 high schools, the expansion of 30 schools, and the conversion of 35 secondary schools. Students of these high schools will receive both the school diploma and the official certificate from SEP.

The Metropolitan Commission of Public Institutions of Upper Secondary Education (Comipems) has been eliminated as a requirement for admission at the high school level. Now, applicants to IPN and UNAM will need to take an online evaluation instead. Those interested in entering the high schools of these institutions should stay alert for registration on the indicated date.

Mario Delgado mentioned that starting February 14, the call for students in the third year of secondary school interested in entering upper secondary education institutions will be published. For future UNAM and Polytechnic students, a place will be guaranteed before starting the evaluation process.
