Political tensions in Mexico over deputy's leave of absence

Deputy Pedro Haces Barba requested leave to attend the SuperBowl in New Orleans, causing discontent within his party. This reflects internal tensions in the Legislative Power.

Political tensions in Mexico over deputy's leave of absence

Before the installation of this Legislature, Haces Barba unsuccessfully tried to occupy a vice-coordination that was ultimately appointed to Gabriela Jiménez and Alfonso Ramírez Cuellar. The tensions between Haces Barba and Alito lead Villegas to show interest in joining the "primor" governors' league. These frictions were evidenced in private meetings of the parliamentary group last year, generating discomfort due to the attitude of the union leader, which was not well received by sectors of the olive party.

Haces Barba's request for leave to attend an expensive event reignites controversy, especially after Claudia Sheinbaum's announcement of new constitutional reforms. This fact has caused displeasure among the rest of the Morena caucus. In a statement in Querétaro, Sheinbaum criticized Trump and reaffirmed the country's sovereignty.

The union leader has been the protagonist of various controversies in Congress, this time linked to Haces Barba, right-hand man of Ricardo Monreal, who requested leave to attend the Super Bowl in the United States. The leave request was submitted to Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, president of San Lázaro, to be absent from February 5 to 9.

Last November, Haces Barba publicly defended the use of a private helicopter by Monreal and himself, despite opposition within the caucus that saw this act as contrary to the "republican austerity" of the 4T. These discrepancies add to the disagreements between the "hard" sectors of Morena and Monreal's supporters, who still do not have a good reputation in those groups.

The internal unrest in the government is perceived despite the fact that the ordinary sessions in San Lázaro are just beginning. Thus, the deputy obtains the leave to witness the Super Bowl final between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
