Legislation in Favor of Women's Rights in Querétaro

The Secretary of Women of the federal government, Citlalli Hernández, has once again made an urgent call to the Congress of Querétaro to decriminalize abortion. This request is based on the need to avoid cases like that of Esmeralda, a minor whose judicial process in the Querétaro prosecutor's office was nullified. Hernández highlighted the importance of legislators focusing their efforts on women's rights.

In this regard, she announced that a group of legislators is already working on a package of reforms related to women's rights. The intention is to achieve a majority consensus in the Congress of Querétaro for its approval. The Secretary of Women has also established an agreement with the state prosecutor's office to provide training in human rights and gender perspective, with the aim of preventing similar situations in the future.

Citlalli Hernández emphasized that legislators must safeguard the rights of individuals and not be guided by personal prejudices and beliefs. In Querétaro, there are several pending issues that require legislation in favor of women, one of the most notable being the legal interruption of pregnancy and the need not to criminalize it. The Secretary insisted that she respects the separation of powers but urged the Congress to act in favor of women's rights.
