In the state of Tabasco, in southern Mexico, a new wave of violence has been recorded, leaving at least eight people dead, including two police officers, in various incidents throughout the day.
One of the burned vehicles is believed to have been used in the attack against the officers, while another patrol was shot at, although fortunately there were no victims in this case.
During this week, Tabasco has been the scene of the violent deaths of around twenty people, despite not being included in the recent government statistics of the five most dangerous states in Mexico as of January. That distinction currently falls to the state of Guanajuato.
According to local reports, the officers were ambushed by an armed group from a vehicle while guarding a location where alcohol was being produced illegally, resulting in their tragic deaths.
In addition to this attack, four other deaths were reported in the municipalities of Centro, Comalcalco, and Huimanguillo, accompanied by criminal acts that included vehicle burnings and sabotage on roads.
The state also faced a riot in one of its penitentiary facilities that resulted in the deaths of seven inmates, adding to the climate of insecurity and violence currently prevailing in the region.
Amidst these events, local authorities are working to restore order and calm in Tabasco, while the population experiences moments of concern due to the rising violence in the area.
