Debate on Norma Piña's Invitation to the Constitutional Event

The Morenista legislator, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, has criticized Minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena for his proposal to invalidate the decisions of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary, arguing that more power would be granted to federal judges to the detriment of the highest electoral tribunal. Noroña expressed his confidence that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation would reject the candidates selected for the 2025 judicial election through a lottery, as the TEPJF allowed these candidates to go directly to the INE.

Noroña defended the decision not to invite Norma Piña, president of the SCJN, to the anniversary ceremony of the Constitution, pointing out that they avoided lotteries in the list of candidates for the Court to prevent possible controversies. During a private session, the Court ministers rejected the list drawn by the Upper Chamber, including names such as Edgar Corzo Sosa, Sergio Javier Molina, Ángel Mario García Guerra, and Ulises Carlín de la Fuente, among others.

In the case of the female ministerial candidates, it was not necessary to conduct lotteries since the number of candidates matched the number of available vacancies. The outstanding candidates who automatically progressed were Paula María García Sánchez Cordero, Marisela Morales, Dora Alicia Martínez Valero, and Rosa Elena González Tirado. According to the call, the three powers had until today to approve their candidates selected by the evaluation committee, whose lists must be sent to the Senate before February 8.

Noroña announced that he will hold a meeting with Guadalupe Taddei, president of the INE, to discuss matters related to the judicial election. The legislator criticized the actions of some Court ministers, whom he labeled as "pathetic" and turned into caricatures of themselves, considering their behavior as "infamous."
