Senate President Slams Court Ministers Over Candidates

The president of the Senate's board, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, called the Court ministers shameless for not approving the list of candidates selected by the Senate through a lottery. Among the candidates that automatically passed are Paula María García Sánchez Cordero, daughter of deputy Olga Sánchez Cordero, and Marisela Morales, former federal prosecutor, among others.

According to the call, the three branches had until Thursday, February 6, to approve their candidates, and it was necessary to send the lists to the Senate before Saturday, February 8. Fernández Noroña plans to meet with Guadalupe Taddei, president of the INE, to discuss additional details.

The legislator also criticized the project of Minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena to invalidate decisions of the Electoral Tribunal, calling some Court ministers pathetic and stating that they are becoming caricatures of themselves.

Among the outstanding candidates from the Judiciary are Edgar Corzo Sosa, Sergio Javier Molina, magistrate Ángel Mario García Guerra, and Ulises Carlín de la Fuente, among others. Fernández Noroña regretted that Norma Piña, president of the SCJN, was not invited to the anniversary ceremony of the Constitution.

The Senate proceeded to carry out the lottery of judicial candidates following an order from the Electoral Tribunal, as the committee was refusing to continue with the process. Fernández Noroña recalled that if the Court did not approve the nominations, they would go directly to the INE.
