Cuauhtémoc Blanco Could Face Removal From Office

The possible removal of federal deputy Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a member of Morena, has generated controversy in the Lower House. If the crime he is accused of is confirmed, the process of impeachment would go through a hearing in which both the complainant, his half-sister, and the accused would participate.

In the past, there have been unsuccessful attempts at impeachment in cases involving politicians, such as the case of Senator Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the PRI. Currently, the Morelos Prosecutor's Office has filed a request to prosecute Cuauhtémoc Blanco for alleged crimes, including attempted sexual assault.

Although the Legislative Power has not yet received the formal impeachment request, the coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, has stated that they would not support Cuauhtémoc Blanco if proceedings were initiated against him. The impeachment request comes from Uriel Carmona, former head of the Morelos Prosecutor's Office, who was removed after submitting it.

In an interview with El Financiero, Uriel Carmona asserted that he would defend himself in accordance with the law, claiming that there are no serious grounds justifying his removal. Cuauhtémoc Blanco is accused of attempted sexual assault against his half-sister, who presented evidence to the Prosecutor's Office to support her complaint.

In addition to the allegations of attempted sexual assault, Cuauhtémoc Blanco would also be linked to corruption crimes, including an alleged irregular payment of 7 million pesos from the Social Democratic Party upon entering politics. The impeachment process would involve the intervention of the Judicial Power and the validation of evidence supporting the accusations.

To carry out the impeachment of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, several steps must be followed, including the presentation of a complaint that meets the requirements for criminal action, the issuance of an opinion by the Chamber of Deputies, and the verification of evidence by an instructing section.
