During the session of the United Commissions on Urban Reordering and Housing, and Legislative Studies of the Senate, Ricardo Anaya Cortés, coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of the National Action Party (PAN), harshly criticized the reform to the National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit), labeling it a "theft" that jeopardizes the resources of millions of Mexicans.
In his speech, Anaya said it was necessary to address the "lies" spread by the representatives of the Morena government and outlined four key points to debunk what he considered a manipulation of information. First, he referred to Article 42, which will allow the government to use the savings of workers in Infonavit, highlighting past cases of corruption where funds could be withdrawn from workers' accounts prematurely.
The PAN coordinator presented examples of account statements of workers with significant amounts in the housing sub-account that could be used by the government for other projects, which Anaya stated would be equivalent to a "theft." He criticized the intention to use workers' savings to finance failed government projects.
In his speech, Anaya also pointed out that no significant changes had been made to the draft reform, despite the government's previous statements. He emphasized that the reform had been approved in the Senate with the opposition of the PAN, PRI, and Movimiento Ciudadano and stressed that the PAN had filed a criminal complaint for acts of corruption with the prosecutor's office.
Furthermore, the politician criticized the government's stance of using corruption in the real estate sector as a pretext to push the reform, arguing that the government should facilitate but not jeopardize workers' savings in those processes. Anaya insisted that while there are housing needs in Mexico, the way to address the problem is not through the reform proposed by the government.
