New reform to protect labor rights in Mexico

Erik Osornio Medina, substitute federal deputy, is working on a reform proposal aimed at combating the misuse of unionism in Mexico. According to Osornio Medina, the main objective of the reform is to protect workers' rights and ensure their democratic participation in union decisions. The reform proposal is expected to be presented in the Chamber of Deputies during the months of March or April.

In his statements, Osornio Medina mentioned: 'I am preparing an initiative so that, for those unions, once it is proven, their registration can be revoked.' The initiative seeks to prevent and sanction practices such as forgery of signatures, deception of authorities, intimidation, extortion, and threats to companies. Additionally, it aims to promote transparency and accountability in union organizations.

It is important to note that, in his role as general secretary of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico, Osornio Medina has emphasized the persistent deficiencies following labor reform, as well as the bad union practices, which he considers necessary to address and confront decisively.
