Senator Cuauhtémoc Ochoa mentioned that the reform was on the legislative agenda as part of the normal discussion process in the Finance Committee. For his part, the senator and coordinator of political operation of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Pedro Haces Barba, distanced himself from the initiative and stated that he has no relation to it.
"Haces asserted: 'I also do not agree with that initiative because it is not mine. Never, ever'". The legislator explained that the bill to be discussed in the Senate Finance Committee on February 5, 2025, "has nothing to do with the spirit of the initiative we presented in 2018."
The president of the Senate Finance Committee, Cuauhtémoc Ochoa, pointed out that the reform allowing employers to deduct workers' debts from their payroll was not pushed by any legislator and that "it was already in the Commission." During a meeting with media outside the Senate, Ochoa indicated that there is no interest from anyone in the initiative, clearly stating that no legislator actively promoted it.
"My initiative was strictly for the purpose of protecting the interests of workers against the abuses of some unregulated credit institutions," Haces detailed, recalling the purpose of his proposal in 2018. Following reports linking Haces to the initiative, Ochoa reiterated that there is no record of him or the Green Party promoting it within the Senate. Senator Haces concluded: "I believe it is now clear."
