Elections for Judicial Positions in Mexico

Seventy-four percent of the contested positions for the judicial elections have been decided by current judges and magistrates. The president councilor of the INE called on citizens to vote next Sunday, June 1st. She emphasized the importance of participating in this electoral process, which will leave the election of the Judiciary in the hands of the electoral body and the will of the people of Mexico.

For his part, Senator Fernández Noroña warned that any decision by the SCJN contrary to the constitutional framework would be deemed illegal. He mentioned that there are more than 600 sitting judges who will go directly to the elective process, with a list of those who have "automatic passage." The senator emphasized that the Court has no power over this electoral process and that the rules of the game must be respected according to the Constitution.

Among the figures presented, the Senate delivered a total of 4,223 candidates to renew 881 judicial positions in the country. Meanwhile, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches selected a total of 3,801 candidates for these contested positions. On the other hand, the discussion in the SCJN regarding the decisions of the TEPJF and their relationship with federal judges will take place soon.

The president councilor of the INE and councilor Jorge Montaño emphasized the importance of respecting the constitutional framework and electoral rules in this process. They highlighted the need for the contenders to adhere to the legal framework and observe the established norms. The selection process for candidates for judicial positions was not without challenges, but the work done by the Senate in coordination with the INE to conclude this stage is noteworthy.

In summary, the electoral process to renew judicial positions in Mexico is progressing with the participation of current judges and the preparation of the selected candidates. The authorities in charge call on citizens to go out and vote and exercise their right in this election.
