Jonathan Mendoza Iserte, former Secretary of Personal Data Protection of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI), exercised his right to reply on the program 'Aristegui en Vivo', after being dismissed from his duties following an alleged extortion complaint against the Mexican Football Federation (Femexfut).
In a document issued last Wednesday, Iserte rejected the accusations against him and criticized that they were assumed to be true without having been officially notified. He stated that he did not participate in acts of corruption with Femexfut and considered his dismissal as part of a "media, summary, and intimidating trial".
The former official explained that the alleged irregularities arose in two interventions by INAI with Femexfut. The first was related to attendance at stadiums of MX League teams in 2022, resulting in an unpaid fine according to his knowledge. The second was related to the Fan ID, a method of identification to improve security at stadiums, which was still under investigation at the time of his departure.
Iserte indicated that he never participated in decisions regarding imposing fines, as his role consisted of proposing projects that were then voted on by the commissioners of INAI. Regarding the pending vote after his dismissal, he stated that he could not discuss details due to the need for confidentiality in his work.
Finally, Iserte denied having been present at meetings with Femexfut and challenged anyone to present evidence of any improper participation. He emphasized his willingness to clarify any doubts once the results of the internal votes in which he did not participate directly are published.
