Monreal Defends Electoral Tribunal's Role in Reforms

Senator Ricardo Monreal supported the decision of the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) to report to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) the judges who granted stays against the reform of the Judiciary. In this regard, he asserted that the Electoral Tribunal will be the only body responsible for resolving any disputes that arise in this process.

He also emphasized that this resolution eliminates any obstacles that could hinder the implementation of the reform, ensuring that the electoral organization can flow correctly. For the senator, this represents a key step in the consolidation of a more transparent judiciary aligned with constitutional principles.

Monreal stated that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) acted improperly by granting such suspensions, as, according to his interpretation, the only body authorized to resolve electoral issues is the Electoral Tribunal. In a press conference, the Morena legislator explained that neither the SCJN, nor the courts, nor the tribunals should have intervened in the electoral reform, since the Constitution grants the Electoral Tribunal exclusive power to resolve such matters.

Monreal stressed that the reform aims to ensure that the electoral process takes place without undue interference, allowing the National Electoral Institute (INE) to organize the election of judges and judicial officials. Finally, Monreal reaffirmed his stance that the SCJN exceeded its powers by getting involved in a matter that does not concern it, insisting that the Electoral Tribunal is the only body that should resolve any controversy in electoral matters. In this sense, he reiterated the Legislative Power's support for the Electoral Tribunal and his confidence that this body will resolve any controversy.
