Operation Northern Border, implemented by the Mexican Government, has started to yield results in Nuevo León. In the first days of the operation, long guns, magazines, vehicles, and cartridges were secured. The Security Cabinet reported on the results obtained on February 14, 15, and 16, 2025. Nationally, since the operation began on February 5, 522 people have been arrested, and a considerable arsenal has been seized, including 489 firearms, 55,820 cartridges of different calibers, 2,089 magazines, as well as large quantities of drugs and vehicles.
In Nuevo León, the seizures include 12 long guns, 96 magazines, 2,093 cartridges, and three vehicles. All actions are carried out in strict adherence to the rule of law and with respect for human rights. Operation Northern Border covers the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Tamaulipas.
In early February, President Claudia Sheinbaum committed to her U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, to send military personnel to the border to reinforce security and combat fentanyl trafficking. Currently, National Guard personnel are present in Nuevo León as part of this commitment. A total of 623 people are deployed in strategic points near the Rio Bravo, conducting patrols on main roads, trails, and paying special attention to the riverbank, which is an important crossing for undocumented individuals attempting to reach the United States.
