This morning, the municipal president of Mazatlán Villa de Flores, Teófilo Marín Pablo, was the victim of an armed attack in which his driver tragically lost his life, authorities from Oaxaca reported. According to the Secretary of Government, Jesús Romero López, the ambush occurred while the mayor was traveling in a vehicle to a locality in his municipality, causing the car to go off the road and fall into a ravine.
The mayor was injured in the attack, sustaining severe fractures that have left him in critical condition, while his driver, identified as Jesús García Moreno, lost his life. Three other people were also injured in the assault.
In response to this violent act, the government of Oaxaca deployed an operation involving federal and state security forces, as well as members of the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense, and the State Attorney General's Office. The competent authorities have already begun investigations to identify those responsible for this attack and clarify the reasons behind it.
The injured municipal president was transferred to a Rural Hospital IMSS BIENESTAR in Huautla de Jiménez for medical care. He is under the protection of public security forces while receiving treatment, and it is expected that the events will be clarified soon to bring those responsible to justice.
