The governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, and several officials from his administration were reported by former magistrate and former prosecutor, Rodrigo Benítez Pérez. The latter accuses them of attempted qualified homicide, torture, abuse of authority, and other crimes. The complaint was initially filed on October 21, 2024, and expanded on February 17, 2025, before the Investigation Unit for Crimes against Corporal Integrity of the Attorney General's Office of the State.
Benítez Pérez recounted that on October 14, 2024, after leaving a meeting at the headquarters of the Judiciary, he was attacked with a knife in the stomach by an assailant who told him, "make it look like a suicide." According to the former magistrate, this phrase was related to expressions used by Governor Navarro Quintero, who has described his administration as "suicidal or kamikaze."
The complainant states that on the day of his attack, a request for a trial of origin from the Attorney General's Office of the Republic was presented to the State Congress. Benítez Pérez also provided documentary and material evidence, including the bloodstained shirt he wore on the day of the attack.
In his complaint, the former magistrate names several officials as alleged responsible parties, including the legal coordinator of the State Government, the attorney general of Nayarit, the deputy attorney general, the chief advisor to the State Government, the secretary general of the Government, the presiding magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice, the general director of Fibba, and other yet unidentified individuals.
Among the reported crimes are attempted qualified homicide, serious threats, extortion, serious qualified injuries, abuse of authority, intimidation, violations against the constitutional order of the State, organized crime, crimes against public servants, among others.
Rodrigo Benítez considers himself a victim along with his family and society. So far, the implicated authorities have not made any statements regarding this matter. Benítez Pérez was removed from his position as a voting magistrate following a legislative decree in November 2024. He is accused of several crimes, including the alleged violation of a subordinate.
For the past two months since his removal, Benítez has published several texts on social media revealing alleged frauds, extortions, and other crimes related to government actions in Nayarit. For the moment, it is unknown if formal investigations have been initiated based on Benítez's accusations.
