Detention of Edgar Iván 'El Pelón' in Mexico City

Edgar Iván 'El Pelón', a leader of the Anti Union Tepito gang, was arrested by authorities after being linked to multiple homicides and violent incidents in Tepito and surrounding areas.

Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security arrested Edgar Iván "N", alias 'El Pelón', one of the leaders of La Anti Unión Tepito and brother of 'El Bebé', another of the leaders, both responsible for attacks in Tepito. Capital authorities reported that 'El Pelón', 22 years old, participated in a shooting in the Morelos neighborhood on February 16 of this year, where one person lost their life, and in which his brother also participated. 'El Bebé' shot at the victims, who is under detention in a hospital under police custody.

'El Pelón' is linked to five other homicides, one of the most recent occurred in the vicinity of the Tlatelolco neighborhood, in the Cuauhtémoc borough.

After becoming aware of the incident that occurred on February 8 of the current year, the officers of SSC CDMX followed up through investigative work on a person likely related to the aggression using firearm shots in the streets of the Maza neighborhood, in the Cuauhtémoc borough.

Police located him in his mobility area on the streets of the Un Hogar para Nosotros neighborhood, in the Miguel Hidalgo borough. While conducting security patrols at the intersection of Salvador Díaz Mirón and Plan de San Luis streets, they observed a person matching the physical characteristics of the criminal, who unusually handled plastic bags used for the sale of narcotics and, upon noticing the police presence, adopted an evasive attitude.

A quick reaction by the capital police intercepted him and carried out a search, after which they seized 57 transparent plastic bags containing marijuana and a mobile phone.

Regarding the detainee, it is known that he has three admissions to the Penitentiary System of Mexico City for health-related crimes in 2023 and 2024 and one more for concealment.
