The General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved in an extraordinary session to reject the incorporation of aliases, nicknames, or pseudonyms of candidates for the judicial election on the ballots. This directly affects Lenia Batres, who will not be able to appear as the 'minister of the people.'
Councilor Jorge Montaño, president of the Temporary Commission of the Extraordinary Process of the Judiciary, argued that aliases are valid for identifying a person, but they must be reasonable and not constitute electoral propaganda or confuse the electorate. He pointed out that some proposals resemble campaign slogans of a political party, referring to Morena.
As of February 18, the INE received 24 requests from candidates who wanted to be registered with a nickname, with Minister Lenia Batres being the main candidate on this list. Among the requests is Marco Antonio Rojo Olavarría, who seeks to be registered as the 'judge of AMLO' and also suggested options like 'the judge of the 4T' or 'the judge of the people.'
Other proposed nicknames include José Blanco Castro as 'the magistrate of change' and Juan José Pulido Rogel as 'the judge of the nation.' Enrique Madina requested to be recognized as 'El lagunero' and Miguel Ruán Díaz as 'El Profe.'
Councilors noted that the proposed aliases could constitute electoral propaganda and that the design of the ballots does not allow for additional information due to being 'overloaded.' It was also considered that the aliases could give an undue advantage to certain individuals.
In the same session, it was agreed that May 31 is the deadline to submit income and expense reports, on June 16 errors and omissions will be notified to the candidates, and on July 18 the Audit Commission must approve the report, which must be approved by the General Council by July 28 at the latest.
