During the session on this Wednesday, the councilors of the National Electoral Institute (INE) discussed whether candidates for judges, ministers, and magistrates could use nicknames related to campaign slogans, such as in the case of Minister Lenia Batres, also known as "the People's Minister," who intends to include this nickname on the ballot. Jorge Montaño, INE counselor, stated: "The inclusion of a nickname is not appropriate, since some proposals are identified with campaign slogans and party affiliation. Additionally, in strict equity, the candidacies should only be identified by their full name."
Candidates for judicial positions seek to use nicknames like "The Angel of Justice," "The People's Defender," "The People's Magistrate," "Judge of the Nation," and "Judge of the People," among others.
In the same session, it was determined that the INE will sanction national and local political parties for a total of 396 million 977 thousand 859 pesos due to irregularities in the review of expenses and income. The infringing behaviors to be sanctioned include unreported expenses, unverified expenses, and expenses without a party-related purpose.
Of the total sanction amount, 358 million 758 thousand 944 pesos will correspond to national parties like Morena, PAN, PRI, and Movimiento Ciudadano, among others, while local parties will have to pay 38 million 218 thousand 915 pesos. The INE will also carry out an audit of national political parties to review their accounting and determine possible debts.
