Governors of the National Action Party (PAN) urged the three levels of government to work together to ensure peace and justice in the country after the governments of the United States and Canada designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorists.

In a statement released by the PAN governors, they expressed their concern over the designation of six cartels as terrorist organizations by the United States. They criticized the previous strategy of 'hugs, not bullets,' considering it a failure, and pointed out that the polarization and politicization of security are also mistakes.

The governors expressed their worry about a possible weakening of institutions and the loss of impartiality in the Judiciary, which is responsible for delivering justice in Mexico. They emphasized the importance of the ongoing judicial election, which will conclude with the selection of ministers, magistrates, and judges next June.

They also highlighted the need for the three levels of government and the three powers of the State to collaborate in providing peace of mind to Mexican families. They advocated for broad dialogue that incorporates the best security practices for the country. They rejected any violation of Mexican sovereignty and emphasized that this must be avoided through a genuine effort and the effective application of the law in the country.

In another context, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Mexico is largely under the control of drug trafficking cartels. During a press conference in Florida, Trump indicated his willingness to help Mexico with this problem, highlighting his relationship with the country and his concern about the influence of the cartels in the Mexican government.
