On February 20, 2025, a video widely circulated on social media showing residents of El Huizache confronting the National Guard due to an attempted looting. The situation was triggered after a trailer loaded with washing machines overturned on federal highway 57, in the stretch between Matehuala-San Luis Potosí, near El Huizache.
During the incident, several locals tried to seize the cargo of the overturned trailer, leading to a confrontation with the National Guard officers present in the area. In the midst of the confusion, the video shows a National Guard agent firing shots into the air to repel the residents' aggression.
The conflict intensified when residents attempted to subdue the National Guard officers in their effort to obtain the washing machines. Despite the authorities' attempts to stop the looting, some individuals continued to challenge the officers, even trying to ram one of them with a white truck.
In the face of this violent situation, the agents were forced to draw their weapons to protect themselves from the attacks and to prevent the residents from taking more appliances. Despite containment efforts, there were no reported arrests by federal authorities following the confrontation.
Although there was theft of some washing machines before the National Guard's intervention, it has not been revealed whether any investigation will be carried out regarding the incident. It has also not been reported if any process will be initiated against the agent who fired into the air and aimed at the residents during the confrontation.
