Federal authorities revealed the capture of two important operators of the Sinaloa Cartel, who played key roles in the operations of the criminal organization led by Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, known as 'Los Chapitos'.
José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza, also known as 'El Güerito', served as the financial chief of the faction, responsible for financial operations, security, and logistics. Meanwhile, Kevin Alonso Gil Acosta, nicknamed 'El 200', was in charge of coordinating security activities and weapon procurement for the group, as well as directing response forces in confrontations against rival groups and federal authorities. Additionally, both participated in the violent episode known as the 'Culiacanazo' in October 2019.
The government of President Claudia Sheinbaum has maintained a series of operations in Sinaloa with the aim of dismantling the main criminal figures operating in the region, particularly focusing on the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, especially Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of 'Los Chapitos'. This faction is in a fierce dispute with 'La Mayiza', led by Ismael Zambada Siqueiros, alias 'El Mayito Flaco', the son of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, and has claimed numerous lives and kidnappings in the region.
The recent operation that culminated in the arrests of Canobbio Inzunza and Gil Acosta is part of the federal government's efforts to contain violence and dismantle the operations of 'Los Chapitos'. According to media reports, during the operations, Iván Archivaldo himself was close to being captured, having allegedly escaped through the sewers and is speculated to be injured, although this information has not been confirmed.
Both detainees played fundamental roles in the international drug trafficking of the organization, especially related to cocaine, methamphetamines, and fentanyl. Canobbio Inzunza, considered the third-in-command in the group's structure, and Gil Acosta are currently in custody at the facilities of the Attorney General's Office in Mexico City.
