Flag Day in Mexico is celebrated on February 24 in commemoration of the adoption of the national tricolor in 1821. Unlike other holidays, such as Constitution Day, Flag Day is not considered a holiday for students or education workers, according to the Ministry of Public Education. Despite this, educational institutions carry out commemorative activities to reflect on the significance of this day.
Although there will be no classes for students on Friday, February 28 due to school meetings, Flag Day does not offer an additional day off. If a worker must work on February 24, they are not entitled to triple pay as they would be on other holidays. However, if they work on Sunday, February 23, they should receive their corresponding Sunday pay by law.
The next long weekend for workers in Mexico will be on Monday, March 17, in commemoration of Benito Juárez's birthday. On that date, both students and workers will have a mandatory day off, and those who must work will receive triple pay. The Federal Labor Law does not consider Flag Day as a holiday; therefore, no paid day off is provided for workers.
