INE starts printing ballots for elections

The National Electoral Institute (INE) approved in an urgent session the definitive list of candidates for the judicial election on June 1, after correcting errors. The list includes 64 candidates for the Supreme Court and 15 for the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation, among other judicial positions. This list was sent to Talleres Gráficos de México for the printing of the corresponding ballots. The reform of the Judiciary has raised concerns in various organizations and institutions due to its implications for political, economic, and social aspects of the country. In this regard, the UN Special Rapporteur for the independence of judges and lawyers, Margaret Satterthwaite, expressed her concern about the implications for judicial independence in Mexico.

The INE started printing 602 million ballots for the election of various positions in the Judiciary, which will take place on June 1. This number of ballots almost doubles those used in the 2024 federal election. In a statement, the INE detailed that in the first stage, the ballots for the election of positions in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and the Superior Room of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation will be printed. Subsequently, ballots for other judicial positions will be printed. The president counselor of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, pointed out that this unprecedented process in Mexico will mark a watershed in the political and electoral history of the country, allowing citizens to choose judges.

The print of the ballots began at the facilities of Talleres Gráficos de México. Taddei affirmed that with this start, progress is being made toward June 1 to ensure that Mexicans exercise their right to choose the judges of the country. The head of the Secretariat of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, highlighted that with this step, one of the most relevant stages of the Extraordinary Electoral Process for the Election of various positions in the Judicial Power of the Federation is being advanced. She recognized the work of the INE and expressed her confidence that Mexico would have a successful electoral process.
