Mexico Intensifies Drug Seizures and Arrests

Last Friday, the Government of Mexico's Security Cabinet announced a series of nationwide operations that resulted in significant seizures. In total, drugs, weapons, vehicles, and cash valued at nearly 400 million pesos were confiscated. These actions were part of the National Security Strategy and involved coordination among various entities, such as the Secretary of National Defense, the Secretary of the Navy, the National Guard, the Attorney General's Office, and local authorities.

Among the most notable results was the confiscation of six kilograms of fentanyl in the State of Mexico, valued at almost 48.7 million pesos, which were detected at Felipe Ángeles International Airport in a package destined for New Jersey. In Sinaloa, 140 kilograms of methamphetamine, 10 firearms, and over 4,000 cartridges, valued at 42 million pesos, were seized, along with the location of four vehicles. In Sonora, 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, an additional thousand doses, weapons, and vehicles were confiscated.

Additionally, several states reported the destruction of 154 poppy fields and 100 marijuana plants, totaling more than 24 hectares eradicated, along with the incineration of over five tons of cocaine in various areas of the country.

Regarding cash seizures, it was detailed that significant sums of money were confiscated during the operations. For instance, a check for 1.5 million pesos was found in Toluca, documents receivable totaling 16.5 million pesos were seized in Nuevo León, and in Chihuahua, during a raid in Ciudad Juárez, 42 kilograms of marijuana, cocaine, and cash valued at 1.3 million pesos were secured.

The actions also encompassed the fight against hydrocarbon theft. In Villagrán, Guanajuato, a clandestine tap was disabled, and five thousand 450 liters of hydrocarbons were recovered. Other notable seizures included various drugs, cash, cannabis vaporizers, pairs of tennis shoes, cigarettes from different brands, and boxes of controlled medications in Mexico City.
