The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez, has reported that in the year 2023, the National Action Party (PAN) recognized Juan Pablo Penilla's professional career as a lawyer and distinguished him as 'Ambassador for Peace.' However, Penilla has been accused of being the lawyer for drug trafficker Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and having direct links with the political party Morena.
Regarding the price of the basic basket, this week the average price stood at 910 pesos, according to the Federal Consumer Attorney's Office (Profeco). The supermarkets offering the cheapest basic basket include Chedraui Campeche, with a price of 717.70 pesos, followed by other chains like Walmart Boca del Río.
In a morning conference from the National Palace, President Claudia Sheinbaum referred to the letter sent by 'El Mayo' Zambada to the Government of Mexico requesting his repatriation. In response, Sheinbaum stated that no concessions would be made to blackmail or threats and that Zambada must face Mexican justice according to the law.
The president mentioned that Zambada's letter would be addressed like any other Mexican citizen's letter and that the head of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), Alejandro Gertz, would inform about the actions taken since the drug trafficker's arrest.
Sheinbaum also expressed her wishes for a speedy recovery to Pope Francis, highlighting his importance to humanity beyond the Catholic religion. She mentioned the progressive ideology of the Pontiff and recalled his encyclicals on the protection of nature and neoliberalism.
Regarding lawyer Juan Pablo Penilla, Sheinbaum stated that she does not know him personally and asserted that they do not establish complicity relationships with anyone. On the other hand, the head of Profeco, Iván Escalante, pointed out that several gas stations have been exposed for high prices this week as part of the 'Do not load here' operation.
Sheinbaum also spoke about her meeting with the lawyer of former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo, Guido Croxatto, who requested her support in the face of alleged international injustices.
