José Luis Montenegro explained that the Mexican government might be seeking an agreement with Ismael Zambada to prevent him from revealing names and to prioritize the criminal group 'La Mayiza', led by 'El Mayo' and his son Ismael Zambada. According to Montenegro, this pact could involve consent towards criminal activities.
The journalist pointed out that Sheinbaum's request for 'El Mayo' Zambada to return to Mexico aims to prevent him from speaking about the corrupt individuals who collaborated with him over the years. Montenegro stated that 'El Mayo' would be pressuring the government with the threat of revealing names of public officials and businessmen linked to political campaigns.
Montenegro recalled that 'El Mayo' Zambada has been an important player in the world of crime since the 1970s and has been considered a skilled political operator. The journalist indicated that Zambada has relevant information about Mexican politicians linked to organized crime, which further complicates the situation with the involvement of Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez, the political advisor to the drug lord.
According to Montenegro, the elimination of 'Los Chapitos' would be a logical consequence if 'El Mayo' Zambada is repatriated to Mexico, as the cartel has suffered recent blows with the arrests of some of its members. The journalist warned that Zambada's repatriation could lead to the destruction or elimination of 'Los Chapitos' and compared the situation to a bank where each political party and figure is a client.
