After the controversy linking the Morena party to lawyer Juan Pablo Penilla, Ricardo Monreal emphatically assured that there is no relationship in Morena with individuals involved in crimes or criminal activities. In response to the appearance of photographs showing him alongside Juan Pablo Penilla, lawyer of 'El Mayo' Zambada, Monreal stated that a photo does not imply responsibility and that he does not know Penilla personally.
Monreal emphasized that Morena in the Chamber of Deputies acts with transparency and responsibility, and that they will not permit any complicity or crime within the party. The current controversy involves Morena and the PAN with Pablo Penilla, who was captured in a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as in photographs with Ricardo Monreal.
In response to opposition criticism, Morena has disseminated a document revealing that the PAN proposed recognizing Penilla for his Professional Excellence in the Chamber of Deputies in 2023. Monreal defended that daily meetings with various individuals do not imply links with criminals, and reiterated that Morena acts with honesty.
In a conference at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, Monreal emphasized that there is no relationship with criminals in Morena and demanded investigations if anyone commits crimes. He affirmed that there are no complicities in the party and requested not to rush to judgments based on images with Juan Pablo Penilla, lawyer of 'El Mayo'.
Monreal declared that this is part of a media campaign against him and the 4T, calling on people not to be swayed by rumors and to wait for evidence. Morena has begun to distance itself from Penilla, assuring that they will seek to clarify responsibilities according to the law and conduct pertinent investigations.
