Extradition Request for 'El Mayo' Zambada

The Attorney General's Office of Mexico has requested the extradition of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada to the United States four times. Zambada argues that he was kidnapped and requests his repatriation to Mexico. Prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero confirms that the procedure has begun since his capture in July 2024.

Extradition Request for 'El Mayo' Zambada

The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) communicated that it has requested the extradition of Ismael 'el Mayo' Zambada from the United States on four occasions. Zambada, in turn, requested to be repatriated to Mexico arguing that he was kidnapped to be handed over to Mexican authorities.

Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero stated that the procedure referred to by Zambada has already been fully complied with. Since the capture of the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel on July 25, 2024, the FGR initiated an extradition process before U.S. authorities for Zambada, who had three outstanding arrest warrants.

In the morning conference from the National Palace, Gertz Manero indicated that Zambada's request for repatriation is being addressed according to established procedures. For now, information about this case is still developing and updates from the prosecutor's office are expected.
