Jalisco Governor Proposes Judicial Reform

The governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, presented his proposal for Judicial Reform to the Congress of Jalisco aimed at aligning with the federal legal reform. Lemus had announced yesterday that he would be making this presentation, noting that his proposal would vary in certain aspects from the federal reform, especially in the process of electing positions in the Judicial Branch.

In his proposal, Lemus emphasized that in Jalisco, positions will not be selected through lotteries or draws, but will involve the participation of qualified experts to choose the most suitable candidates. He highlighted that the process will be technical, citizen-based, and will not have partisan motivations. He invited all political factions in the Congress of Jalisco to join this initiative.

"I hope that not only Movimiento Ciudadano but all parliamentary factions in the Congress of Jalisco can get on board," expressed the governor. Regarding the election of positions in the Judicial Branch in Jalisco, Lemus indicated that the renewal of judges and magistrates is expected to take place in 2027.
