Mexico and the U.S. will meet on border security

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that her security cabinet will meet with the U.S. Secretary of State to address border security and avoid tariffs.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, informed that the security cabinet and the chancellor, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, will hold a meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to address border security in the context of the tariff pause. "Today the security cabinet is departing, they will meet tomorrow in Washington with the Secretary of State of the United States Government," the president pointed out during her morning press conference.

Sheinbaum detailed that the objective of the meeting is to reach a coordination agreement with Washington to address security issues and avoid the imposition of a 25% tariff on Mexican products, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, which would take effect next week.

In this sense, the meeting in Washington seeks to find solutions that benefit both nations and avoid tariff measures that could affect trade relations between Mexico and the United States. The importance of strengthening cooperation on border security will be the central theme of the meeting between representatives of both countries.

"Reaching a coordination agreement with Washington is of utmost importance to address security problems affecting both nations and to ensure the continuity of the trade relationship within a framework of mutual respect," Sheinbaum emphasized.
