President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her willingness to hold an in-person meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump after March 4, the deadline to avoid a 25% tariff on Mexican products. "After March 4, no, I do not close the door, on the contrary, there could be a meeting (in person with Trump). But there needs to be an agreement between the two Governments," the president stated during her morning press conference at the National Palace.

Sheinbaum clarified that the final decision would be made after March 4, when it will be determined whether the tariffs, previously paused by Trump for a month on February 3, will take effect. A review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), originally planned for 2026, is expected. In light of Trump's executive orders regarding tariffs, the president deemed it likely that this review will be advanced.

The president announced that security cabinet officials will meet with authorities in Washington to discuss the outcomes of Mexico's security strategy, which included the deployment of 10,000 National Guard personnel at the border with the United States to prevent the enforcement of the proposed tariffs. Sheinbaum also mentioned that she would seek a call with Trump during the week to finalize an agreement to prevent the activation of the trade taxes, expected for next week.

Regarding the strategy to be followed in case the tariffs are enforced, the president emphasized that her government is prepared to confront the measure.
