Guzmán Family Members Face U.S. Charges | Ours Abroad News

In the midst of the drug trafficking plot involving the Guzmán family, including Joaquín Guzmán López, alias 'El Mayo' Zambada, are various charges such as possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, money laundering, ongoing participation in a criminal enterprise, and possession of firearms. Joaquín Guzmán López's next hearing is scheduled for March 19, although there is a possibility that it may be postponed if negotiations have not concluded.

Ariel Moutsatsos, a journalist, mentioned that Joaquín Guzmán López was responsible for bringing 'El Mayo' Zambada to the United States, and although the judicial processes of both appear to be progressing at different speeds, they seem to be close to each other. Moutsatsos also highlighted the importance of observing the role that Los Chapitos will play in the trial of the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, scheduled for April 22.

The hearing for Ovidio Guzmán, known as 'El Ratón', was initially scheduled for February 27 but was postponed to the end of March. The defense of Los Chapitos confirmed that they are negotiating an agreement with the government of Donald Trump, and the recent postponement of Ovidio Guzmán's hearing in the U.S. could be part of those ongoing negotiations.

According to information provided by Ariel Moutsatsos, a correspondent in the U.S., the defense of Los Chapitos is carrying out negotiations that could result in a beneficial deal for both members of the Guzmán family. This possible agreement could involve a reduction in sentences in exchange for relevant information about drug trafficking operations in Mexico. Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada has already been brought to justice in the U.S., and details of the final agreement are expected to be revealed soon.

The charges faced by Los Chapitos, both Ovidio Guzmán and his brother, are similar and they are seeking to obtain shorter sentences through cooperation with U.S. authorities. In an unexpected turn, it was one of 'El Chapo's' sons who decided to voluntarily surrender to the authorities to collaborate in the investigations, which has generated speculation about the outcome of this complicated drug trafficking case.
