Lawyer Sergio Arturo Ramírez Muñoz was linked to Juan Pablo Penilla, legal advisor to 'El Mayo' Zambada, after a contract linking him to the Chamber of Deputies in the past legislature, dominated by Morena, was revealed, according to Elías Lixa, coordinator of the PAN in that body.
Among the people Sergio Ramírez has worked with are Gloria Trevi and Sergio Mayer, who acknowledged having collaborated with him in the LXIV Legislature when he was a deputy. Although Mayer stated that he did not know that Penilla's partner was dedicated to the defense of drug traffickers, as the lawyer claims.
Regarding the relationship between the two, Mayer mentioned that it was solely professional, without any friendship beyond their work time. Ramírez worked on issues of culture and peace as an advisor during his time in the Chamber of Deputies, which Mayer was little aware of due to his involvement in those matters.
According to Mayer, the work of a lawyer can encompass the defense of different types of people, including drug traffickers, as part of his profession. He highlighted the soundness of Ramírez's work while he was his advisor, stating that there was nothing illegal or immoral in his performance.
