The actor and deputy of the political party Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), Sergio Mayer Bretón, is currently in the spotlight after a document was revealed that supposedly links him to a close associate of Juan Pablo Penilla, lawyer for Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
The leaked document reveals that lawyer Sergio Arturo Ramírez Muñoz, partner of El Mayo's defender, signed a service provision contract in 2021 with the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Union, as a technical liaison for the Commission of Culture and Cinematography, which was then chaired by Mayer Bretón.
“I do not have to acknowledge anything. I am acknowledging that yes, he was my advisor in 2021, but I’m unaware of the other... I don’t know what he’s doing now,” Mayer stated during a media declaration.
Sergio Mayer admitted to having ties with the partner of El Mayo Zambada's lawyer, Sergio Arturo Ramírez Muñoz, and even claimed that he was a substitute for the Morena politician in the 2021 campaign and that he proposed him himself.
According to information from Enfoque Noticias, Mayer requested that opposition parties file the corresponding complaints if they have knowledge of any irregularity and stop “politicizing” the issue.
