President Claudia Sheinbaum congratulated the national leader of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, during the morning conference for her statements announcing that her party will not nominate relatives of officials in the local elections of Durango and Veracruz this year, nor in the 2027 electoral process. 'Morena says, ‘we will not nominate anyone who is a relative,’ that’s what the party president says, and it is also in Morena's statutes, it is part of the statutes,' the president stated from Palacio Nacional.

In line with Alcalde Luján's statements, Sheinbaum praised the decision not to present proposals from relatives in the mentioned elections, emphasizing the importance of respecting the Morena president's stance on nepotism and non-re-election. The president highlighted that these types of measures contribute to greater transparency in political life.

Regarding the change from 2027 to 2030 in the electoral reform, Sheinbaum clarified that it does not represent weakness in the movement, but rather an agreement stemming from dialogue with other political parties to approve the reform in the Senate and its subsequent inclusion in the Mexican Constitution after being approved by local congresses.

In response to the criticisms she has received, the president pointed out that she has been labeled authoritarian, but after failing to gain approval for the reform as she had proposed, she is now accused of not exercising enough political force, contradictions that, in her opinion, reflect the lack of coherence of her opponents.

When asked about the possible participation of relatives of Morena members in the 2027 elections, such as Ruth González, the wife of the governor of San Luis Potosí, or Saúl Monreal, the brother of the governor of Zacatecas, Sheinbaum sent a clear message: 'They are young, they should wait for another term.' The president added that society does not approve of nepotism and that it is necessary to avoid the prolonged presence of families in political positions, whether in state or municipal governments.
