Threats Against Mayor of Izúcar de Matamoros

The mayor of Izúcar de Matamoros, Eliseo Morales, reported last Tuesday, February 25, that he receives death threats from criminal groups, but despite this, he will continue to work. In a radio interview, the municipal president ruled out asking for a security detail or any type of personal security, stating that he prefers to work together with the state and federal government.

"I don't want to become a former president and another investigation case; we must join efforts with the federation, with the state, and the municipality," he indicated. The local leader also denied having links to organized crime and revealed that in Izúcar de Matamoros there is a sale of fentanyl, synthetic drugs, burglaries of homes, and assaults on pedestrians.

In line with his position, Morales ruled out the possibility of requesting security from the state government and mentioned that he has not filed formal complaints regarding the death threats. He emphasized his willingness to work without fear and communicated that he is in contact with Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier to discuss the measures to be taken in response to the threats received.

Morales affirmed that as a public figure, he is exposed to this type of situation; however, his determination to continue performing his duties remains firm. Regarding the individuals responsible for the threats, he indicated that he still does not know their identity and that these could be a consequence of the security operation initiated by the state government.

The mayor informed that he will combine efforts with the governor to address the situation and expressed his confidence that everything will turn out well. He stressed that his commitment is to the citizens and that he will continue working to maintain security in the municipality despite the difficulties.
