Narcos Series Spark Popular Culture in Mexico

Mexican drug traffickers have become a reference in popular culture thanks to songs and television series that narrate their lives. Over the years, several titles inspired by the stories of drug traffickers from Latin America have resonated, such as 'El Señor de los Cielos', 'Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso', 'El Chema', 'Señora Acero', 'Dueños del Paraíso', 'La Querida del Centauro', 'Enemigo Íntimo', 'El Barón', 'La Diosa Coronada', 'Narcos', 'Narcos: México', 'Alias El Mexicano', and others.

These productions can be viewed through various streaming platforms, such as Netflix, and some are even broadcast on television, like 'El Señor de los Cielos', which has gained great popularity throughout Latin America. Some of these series have referenced real-life drug traffickers such as Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, Amado Carrillo, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo.

The popularity of drug trafficking series has led to the genre becoming a category in its own right, as various productions have stood out by revealing unprecedented details about the experiences of these characters. On February 27, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection announced the extradition of at least 29 drug traffickers who must face justice in the United States. Among the most talked-about names are Rafael Caro Quintero, 'El Z40', and 'El Z42'.

Extradition is a legal process by which fugitives from justice who have committed serious crimes are delivered from one country to another to ensure that they answer for their actions before the corresponding authorities.
